Scary Moment
We had a scary moment Wednesday. Bricen was in my bedroom in his bassinet and I was going from the bedroom to the laundry room. When I walked out he was on his side. I heard him coughing a little so I stuck my head out of the laundry room to look at him. He was on his back with spit up flowing out his mouth and nose. I ran in, turned him on his side and reached for the suction except it would not work. In the meantime the brady (low heart rate) alarm started going off, he is still gasping for air, my dog is under my feet trying to figure out what's going on. I took a few seconds to try to trouble shoot the suction machine then picked him up, ran to his bedroom and started throwing things around looking for that (almost) worthless nasal aspirator. Finally, after what seemed like years, got him cleaned out enough and the alarm stopped. Never got the suction machine to work. Had to call Lincare to get another one. #1. I hate days like that. #2. I greatly appreciate having a whole team of coworkers with me during situations like this at work.
We've had a couple scary moments like this in the past. A couple times Bricen's alarm went off for apnea and when Marty tried to stimulate him he didn't repond for (what was probably a few seconds) what seemed like forever. Not long after we got home from NICU Bricen had a bad spit up/vomit, I had already suctioned and he was doing his gasping for air afterwards when his brady alarm went off. I was at least able to see that day that he was in the 80's. This is still low for a baby but at least it wasn't as chaotic as Wednesday. That day he hovered in the 80's for again what seemed like forever and I was beginning to wonder if it was going to come back up. One day I'm pretty sure I had his NG in his lungs. That was scary to watch your kid turn colors and then have to go right back at it and get it down. Hate scary moments. The End.
